Why do many auto salesmen like to add hidden fees in the vehicle?
Sales professionals generally dont. If anything, theyre done from the very beginning. So, to back up. Certain fees, like doc fee, if you charge it, youre required to charge it on every unit. Some have none, some have small ones, some have large ones. For Title/Lien fees, thats only if you finance it. Ask about them right away. The reason it seems like they are hidden, is because to the salesperson, they are part of every day sales, on every single vehicle, every single time, and they end up not thinking about it. For a consumer, it may be the first time theyve seen or experienced it, and they need to be more aware and transparent from the beginning. But for the most part, there is nothing going on underhanded, as they have to show you the fees, so there should be nothing hidden. That being said, there are always those out there giving others a bad name. Extremely high doc fees, probably hiding the facts, etc. But in general, its less nefarious. Usually just lazy salesperson not following the proper steps.
